FAQs
-
Brainspotting is a focused, mindfulness-based approach that uses points in your visual field (called “brainspots”) to help access and process stored emotional and nervous-system experiences. When your eyes rest on certain points, it can naturally connect with the deeper parts of the brain where unprocessed stress, emotions, and patterns are held.
In coaching, brainspotting principles are used to support growth, performance, and emotional regulation, rather than diagnosis or clinical treatment.
-
The core of brainspotting—your internal processing—works very well online. Instead of sitting in the same room, you meet with your coach over secure video from a private space of your choice. Your coach still helps you:
Identify a focus or intention
Locate a brainspot using your visual field
Stay with the process as your system unwinds and integrates
Many people find they can go deeper, faster when they’re already in a familiar environment like home.
-
No. Online Brain Spot offers coaching, not therapy.
Coaching focuses on goals, growth, resilience, and performance.
Therapy is medical/clinical care that can include diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions.
If you need treatment for trauma, severe anxiety or depression, or other mental health concerns, please connect with a licensed mental health professional. Brainspotting coaching can sometimes complement therapy, but it does not replace it.
-
Online brainspotting coaching is often a good fit if you:
Feel stuck in certain patterns or reactions
Experience stress, overwhelm, or emotional “edges” you can’t shift with willpower alone
Have performance or creative blocks (public speaking, business visibility, artistic expression, etc.)
Want more emotional regulation and nervous-system resilience
Value self-awareness and are curious about mind–body approaches
You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to benefit from this work.
-
Online brainspotting coaching is not the right fit if you:
Are in immediate crisis or having active thoughts of self-harm or harming others
Need assessment, diagnosis, or medical documentation
Need intensive clinical treatment for severe mental health conditions
In those situations, please reach out to a licensed mental health provider, emergency services, or crisis support.
-
You’ll need:
A stable internet connection
A device with a camera (laptop, tablet, or phone)
Headphones (recommended but optional)
A private, comfortable space where you feel safe to close your eyes or become emotional
Many clients like to have tissues, water or tea, and a blanket nearby for comfort.
-
Yes. Sessions are held on a HIPAA-compliant, encrypted video platform and we follow strong privacy practices, including secure storage and limited access to your information.
However, there are limits to confidentiality in any helping relationship (for example, if there is an immediate risk of harm). These limits will be clearly explained in your intake paperwork and first session.
-
Check-in: You share what feels most important that day.
Set an intention: You and your coach choose a focus together.
Find a brainspot: Your coach guides you to locate an eye position connected to your internal experience.
Processing: You simply notice sensations, emotions, images, and thoughts that arise while staying with the brainspot.
Integration: The session ends with grounding, reflection, and support for integrating the work into daily life.
You don’t have to talk through every detail for change to happen—much of the work is happening inside your nervous system.
-
No. You’re always in choice about what you share. Some people like to give more context; others prefer to say very little and stay focused on internal sensations. Brainspotting works either way.
You can set boundaries around topics that feel off-limits, and you can always pause or slow down the process.
-
Experiences vary. Some people feel:
Lighter, calmer, or more clear
Sleepy or tired as the nervous system settles
More emotional or reflective for a short time
Your coach will help you ground before you leave the session and may suggest simple practices (movement, hydration, journaling, rest) to support integration.
-
Session rates depend on the practitioner you work with and their level of training and experience in brainspotting and related approaches. Coaches with advanced training or specialized expertise may have higher fees than those who are newer to the work.
During your free 15-minute consultation, we’ll:
Help you find the best-fit practitioner
Review current rates for 50-, 60-, and 90-minute sessions
Explore any package options (such as short series or ongoing monthly support)
You’ll always know the exact fee before scheduling.

At this time, Online Brain Spot is focused on serving clients within the United States. This keeps scheduling, legal, and time-zone considerations simpler and allows us to provide more consistent support.
-
Each practitioner has their own cancellation policy, which will be shared clearly when you schedule. In general, you’ll be asked to give at least 24–48 hours’ notice to avoid a late-cancellation fee.
